Measure a tree's diameter, height, and age from one smartphone photo
Overview
I built a mobile app for foresters that reads a tree's diameter, height, and age from a single smartphone photo. It also tags each tree by GPS so field teams can track them over time. I made it with WWF for real forest work.
The problem
Foresters had to measure trees by hand, which is slow in the field and hard to keep consistent across large areas.
What I built
I used computer vision to estimate tree measurements from a photo and added GPS tagging so every tree stays on the map.
